Proton X50 facelift debuts in Trinidad and Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN: The Proton X50 facelift was recently launched in Trinidad and Tobago, marking the B-segment SUV’s second export market entry after it was launched in Brunei in January this year.

The launch, hosted by local distributor ANSA Motors, underscores Proton’s growing export ambitions.

ANSA Motors general manager (new vehicle sales) Marc Pontifex highlighted the model’s strong value proposition.

“The all-new X50 offers a premium driving experience at a competitive price point, making advanced automotive technology more accessible to a wider range of drivers across Trinidad and Tobago. This latest iteration further strengthens its appeal as a smart and stylish SUV for modern lifestyles,” said Pontifex.

Proton International Corp Sdn Bhd (PICSB) CEO Edmund Lim Meng Thong said, “Trinidad and Tobago is a key market for Proton in the Caribbean region and plays an important role in our broader export strategy."

"“Moving into 2026, PICSB is committed to further expanding our export footprint by introducing new models, strengthening our distribution network, and increasing overall export volumes across multiple regions. These efforts will encompass both Proton’s ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV (electric vehicle) models as we strive to bring Proton products and our brand values to more buyers globally,” he added.

One of Proton’s key sales growth pillars, export sales volume was 6,000 units in 2025, its highest level since the beginning of Proton’s partnership with Geely.

The X50 facelift has Proton’s i-GT 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 181PS and 290Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Combined, they offer improved responsiveness and fuel efficiency of just 6.1 litres per 100km.

The updated model also features a refreshed exterior design with sharper lines and a more commanding stance, complemented by a modern, technology-focused interior.

At the heart of the cabin is an upgraded infotainment system designed to enhance connectivity, usability and overall driver interaction.

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including a 360-degree camera and intelligent parking assist, are complemented by a suite of safety technologies.
