Public encouraged to report offences committed by heavy vehicle drivers to cops

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman encourages information on offences involving drivers of heavy vehicles, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director said the police should be informed if heavy vehicle drivers' actions endanger other road users.

"We strongly encourage people to come forward and pass us such information as soon as possible.

"There are situations where road users record offences by drivers of heavy vehicles, and it will assist in preventing and curving accidents from occurring.

"Such a move will assist JSPT or other enforcement agencies to take action but the recordings must be given through the proper channels," he said when contacted on Thursday (Dec 26).

Comm Yusri also commended the action of some road users, who recorded road offences and informed the police as soon as possible.

"Cooperation between the public and the police through the sharing of information is vital towards reducing the number of accidents in the country and tracking down offenders.

"However, don't take advantage of a situation by merely recording a road mishap just for the sake of uploading the footage on social media accounts and making it viral in the hopes of gaining followers," he said.

Comm Yusri urged those with information on any road mishaps especially involving heavy vehicles to contact the JSPT operations room at 03-22663356 or contact the nearest police station.

On the night of Dec 23, seven people were killed while 33 others were injured following an accident at KM204 of the PLUS Highway.
