PETALING JAYA: The postponement of toll hikes this year will extend to 20 highways and two bridges - including the SMART Tunnel - and will cost the government over RM2bil, says the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA).

In a statement issued today, the MHA said the government would have to pay RM2.093bil to postpone hikes in toll charges this year.

"In line with the government's decision, consumers will continue to enjoy toll payments at a lower rate compared to the toll rates under the concession agreements.

"Consumers will also continue to enjoy quality facilities and services along the highways," the MHA said.

The MHA said the postponement in increases in toll fares will cover all vehicles involving the North-South Expressway (PLUS), Malaysia-Singapore Second Link, North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grandsaga), Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) and Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya).

Other highways are Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway (LKSA), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE), Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK), KL-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX), Kajang-Seremban Highway (LEKAS), Senai-Desaru Expressway, Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR), Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS) and the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway.

Also covered are the North Klang Straits Bypass (NNKSB), Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), SMART Tunnel and SPRINT Expressway for all vehicles at the Penchala Toll Plaza, Pantai Toll Plaza (class 1 and 5 vehicles) and Damansara Toll Plaza (class 5).

The MHA added that toll charges would not increase for class 1 and 5 vehicles at the PJS2 Toll Plaza, class 5 vehicles for the Pantai Dalam and PJS5 toll plazas under the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), class 1 and 5 vehicles on the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) and the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR), the MHA added.

As for the Penang Bridge, MHA said that postponement in a hike in toll charges will cover Class 2,3, 4, and 5 vehicles comprising private vehicles and basses.

MHA noted that this does not include the government obligation to pay RM160.1mil to defer a hike in toll charges for the Kesas Highway, South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2).
