KUALA LUMPUR: Professional long distance driver Rainer Zietlow is set on making a new record - this time in a Volkswagen ID.Buzz.
The multi-time Guinness World Records holder aims to be the first person to visit the most countries in a single journey in a fully electric vehicle (EV).
It is a globe-trotting journey that spans 80,000km across 75 countries. He has at the time of writing traveled through 46 countries in 84 days while covering more than 46,400km.
Zietlow said the partnership between Volkswagen and Giti Tire has been central to his progress so far during his stop in Malaysia.
This is the second time Zietlow has been to Malaysia with the first in 2012 with a Volkswagen Touareg.

“The driving experience and overall capabilities of the ID.Buzz and set of Giti tyres are very good. I am confident that I will be able to complete this zero-emissions world record attempt," said Zietlow.
"I am thoroughly enjoying my second visit to Malaysia, and this will definitely not be my last,” he added.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia managing director Renate Noessler said the ID.Buzz is a modern revival of the legendarily beloved VW Bus while carrying the same spirit.
"Re-imagined for a new generation, Rainer’s mission really highlights the ID.Buzz's performance, reliability, and spirit of exploration that people all around the globe know and love,” said Noessler.
Giti Tire Group international marketing deputy general manager Shiroo Chia added how this journey also showcases Giti’s technological strength.
“Rainer’s ultra-long-distance journey is powerful real-world proof of GitiSynergy H2’s advanced technology and trusted performance.
"We’re proud that both the automaker and driver rely on Giti to conquer this 80,000km, 70-country world tour,” said Chia.
