Refreshed Porsche Cayenne heads to Shanghai for April 18 world premiere

STUTTGART: Porsche showed off the headlights of the facelifted Cayenne in its final teaser as it gets set to stage the world debut of its flagship SUV at Auto Shanghai on April 18.

Following its launch in 2017, Porsche has enhanced the third-generation of the Cayenne that involves its powertrain, chassis, design, equipment and connectivity.

A highly digitalised display and operating concept are also highlights of the refreshed model as it is set to be unveiled in China, the company's largest single market.

The new Cayenne boasts all-new HD matrix headlights that are more energy efficient and have an impressive light throw of up to 600m.  They are also twice as bright than previous systems.

Each headlight has two chips., and each chip comes with 16,384 individually controllable micro-LEDs on a thumbnail-size surface.

The high-beam is adaptive and does not dazzle oncoming traffic at night.

The rear will sport an updated light bar with fresh graphics.

Performance in the all-wheel drive Cayenne will also be improved.

The entry level version will get a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 making 349hp and 502Nm or 14hp and 50Nm more than before.

The Cayenne S will get a twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 instead of a V6 to prodice 468hp and 599Nm.

The Cayenne Turbo GT offers up 651hp (+20 hp) and the same torque of 850Nm.

Hybrids or E-Hybrids continue to be part of the Cayenne range and they will gain a larger 25.9-kWh battery instead of the current 17.9-kWh pack. They will also get an 11-kW onboard charger instead of the optional 7.2-kW one in the outgoing model.

Each of the hybrid variants will have 463hp (+8hp) and 649Nm.

Chinese customers will also get a 2.0-litre petrol engine variant.

All variants get an eight-speed automatic.

With the next-generation Macan being all-electric, the Cayenne will also follow suit once it enters the next generation after 2025.
