Renault to unveil 4x4 Savane concept at French Open

PARIS: Renault will be introducing the 4x4 Savane Concept, an off-road adaptation of its electric Renault 4 E-Tech, here at the French Open (May 25-June 8).

The concept car would be revealed earlier on May 19, when qualifying rounds for the tennis tournament starts.

The Savane concept increases ground clearance by 15 mm and widens both front and rear tracks by 10mm.

It is fitted with Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ 225/55 R18 tyres and gains a second electric motor on the rear axle to provide permanent all-wheel drive for improved traction on loose or uneven surfaces.

The show car’s bodywork is finished in a new Jade Green paint, contrasted by gloss-black bumpers and wheel arches.

Its roof employs a digitally printed fabric for camouflage effect, and 3D-printed bumper components offer enhanced shock absorption. “4Savane” badging appears on the flanks and tailgate, confirming its four-wheel-drive identity.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Deep Brown textile, with tonal quilting on the seatbacks and a houndstooth pattern on the lateral reinforcements. Door panels and the dashboard feature matching top-stitched fabric, while a backlit “4Savane” logo on the dash strip highlights the concept’s branding.

Also on display at the Renault stand will be three special editions of its Renault 5 and electric variants.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E, previewed earlier in the year, makes its public debut in black, yellow and white livery recalling the 1982 Tour of Corsica winner.

Its quad in-wheel motors deliver a combined 555 hp via an 800 V electrical architecture.

Orders, which opened on April 22, have already covered over 500 of the 1,980 units planned, each priced from €160,000 (RM770,000).

The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric Roland-Garros edition features a 52 kWh battery offering up to 402km of range and includes tennis-inspired design cues: a Cross of Saint Andrew pattern inside and out, clay-coloured induction charging mat and light grey recycled-textile upholstery embossed with the tournament logo.

Renault is also the official transport provider for the tournament with an 87% electrified fleet of 187 vehicles.

Main models include the Scenic E-Tech Electric, Rafale E-Tech full hybrid and the new Espace E-Tech full hybrid, alongside the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric and the special Renault 5 Roland-Garros edition.

In partnership with WeRide, Renault will trial two autonomous electric minibuses to shuttle spectators between Porte d’Auteuil and the village.

The brand’s “Give Me 5” social-impact initiative has expanded its ambassador roster to include French number 2 Ugo Humbert, joining tennis stars Casper Ruud, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Diede de Groot and Luca Van Assche to renovate courts in disadvantaged areas and promote community sport.
