LONDON: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection, a limited edition series of 25 cars inspired by a solar eclipse.
The collection explores the interplay of light and darkness, capturing the moment when the moon completely obscures the sun.
The exterior of the car features a Lyrical Copper colour, which incorporates powdered copper pigment to create a rich iridescence. Mandarin accents adorn the inserts below the Pantheon grille and brake callipers, recalling the intense pulses of sunlight during an eclipse.
The hand-painted coachline represents the transition from sunlight to darkness as the moon approaches to cover the sun.
One of the standout features of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis is the fully Bespoke Starlight headliner. As the coach doors close and the engine starts, the "stars" in the headliner darken, replicating the emergence of a solar eclipse.
A circle of 940 "stars" is formed, representing the bright corona of light around the lunar silhouette, surrounded by a further 192 illuminating "stars" that recreate the spectacle of stars visible during daylight, which only occurs during a total solar eclipse.
This animation remains visible for seven minutes and 31 seconds, the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse.
The illuminated fascia of the motor car features 1,846 laser-etched 'stars' in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. A Bespoke designer spent over 100 hours adjusting the size and position of each 'star' to create the mesmerising effect.
The illuminated fascia culminates in a bespoke timepiece that incorporates a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond, reminiscent of the "Diamond Ring" effect seen during a solar eclipse. This is the first time in Rolls-Royce history that a gemstone has been integrated into the clock's bezel.
The interior of the Ghost Ékleipsis is inspired by the twilight that surrounds viewers during a solar eclipse. The bi-coloured seats feature a perforated artwork made of over 200,000 individual perforations.
The Mandarin leather is tinted black and then perforated to reveal a brighter contrasting colour beneath, creating a visual effect with depth and subtlety.
The collection also includes bespoke finishing touches such as illuminated treadplates, umbrellas with Mandarin piping concealed in the coach doors, and a unique indoor motor car cover bearing the Private Collection's wordmark.
All 25 examples of the Ghost Ékleipsis have already been set aside for clients around the world.
