DENGKIL: Running a red light is the most common offence detected in Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2025 in Selangor which began on March 24, according to state Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Azrin Borhan.
He said this accounted for 81 out of 115 offences detected so far, followed by driving in the emergency lane with 10 incidents.
"Most of the offences of running the lights involve cars and motorcycles.
"Among the reasons given by the offenders were rushing, being impatient, and ... not noticing the light was red," he told an Ops HRA press conference at the Dengkil rest stop here today.
Azrin said that during Ops HRA, Selangor JPJ is focusing on such offences as driving in the right lane continuously, driving in the emergency lane and using a mobile phone while at the wheel.
He said Ops HRA 2025 and the ongoing "Pandu Selamat, Sampai Selamat" (Drive Safe, Arrive Safe) Road Safety Campaign which ends on April 8 are aimed at reducing road accidents, especially during the festive season, with a comprehensive strategy.
"This time, we (are also) ... monitoring the smoothness and efficiency of public transport service operations and enforcing a ban on goods vehicles as well as scheduled offences," he said.
Azrin said JPJ has also assigned its personnel to go "undercover" as express bus passengers with a focus on destinations in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis and Johor.
"So far ... preliminary results (show) that most bus drivers and their assistants are obeying road rules," he said.
Azrin urged all road users to comply with the rules, be patient when driving and pull in at rest stops if they are tired.
