PETALING JAYA: An academician from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) has been awarded the Prudent Driver Award from the police.

Faculty of Arts and Social Science Assoc Prof Dr Cheah Phaik Kin received the award from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani during an Op Selamat award ceremony held at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

Assoc Prof Cheah was among three recipients, with the other two being V. Munuganan and Mohd Firdaus Abd Hamid.

They each received a plaque and certificate.

The award was presented to motorists who consistently practise road safety and abide by the law on public roads.

All three winners also participated in a promotional video for the Op Selamat 17 road safety campaign.

“I am honoured to be selected as one of the winners.

“It gives me encouragement to continue abiding by road safety rules and regulations.

“I am also impressed by the clean track record of fellow recipients, who have been consistent in safe driving,” said Assoc Prof Cheah.

She also expressed gratitude to the police officers and volunteer reserve officers who worked around the clock, sacrificing their own holidays and time with their loved ones to ensure the safety of all Malaysians.

“It is a relief to know that police efforts have significantly reduced road accidents and deaths.

“These efforts and sacrifices are commendable,” she added.
