Safe haven at Petron stations

KUALA LUMPUR – Petron’s commitment to community safety is greatly proven through its partnership with the police in the Go-To-Safety-Point (GTSP) programme.

Petron continued its GTSP awareness programme by demonstrating an emergency situation with the Sabah contingent RMP at Petron Minintod, Sabah on Oct 20.

Petron head of retail business Shaliza Mohd Sidek said the GTSP programme is one of the ways the company contribute to the safety, security and well-being of the community.

“We want to increase public awareness on GTSP and for Petron to be known as a safe location where they canseek early assistance in the event of an emergency. Our collaboration with the police gives us the opportunity to give back to the community in the form of this programme,” she said.

The GTSP Programme is an initiative led by the police under the government’s “United Against Crime” that aims to ensure the safety and security of the local communities.

It increases police presence at Petron stations and calls made from Petron stations receive quicker response time, making the stations a safe shelter for the public during emergency situations.

The event was launched by the Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Datuk Jauteh Dikun which simulated an emergency situation.

The exercise also served as a “real-time” training for the station staff to put their knowledge into practice when faced with similar situations in the future.

Another aspect of GTSP that was showcased during the simulation was the use of the ‘de-stress’ corner which provided a comfortable space for the public to seek shelter, calm down and receive early assistance.

The corner was equipped with a first aid kit, a chair, a blanket and a safety information board that contained emergency contact numbers.

Petron Minintod dealer Yong Shiaw Yeou said his station staff were trained to provide early assistance to the public during an emergency while we contacted the relevant government agencies for further support.

“My hope is that the simulation today will increase public understanding on the GTSP programme and assured them that they will be assisted by our station staff during emergency” said Yong.

Petron Malaysia is the first oil company to enforce GTSP at the service stations.

Since 2013, all Petron Service Stations nationwide are GTSP ready and for easy identification, the GTSP window decal are posted on the glass wall of the stations.

Service station personnel received periodic refresher trainings which were jointly held by Petron and the police.

Petron also uses murals to convey the message that safety is everyone's responsibility.
