LONDON: Jaguar has confirmed that Type 01 is the name of its new luxury four-door GT.
Jaguar says the new luxury four-door GT encapsulates its spirit of originality, with an unmistakable presence and driving character.
The ‘Type’ designation unites the brand’s history of innovation in design, technology and performance with the most advanced Jaguar ever.
In the Jaguar Type 01, the ‘0’ represents electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions; ‘1’ denotes its status as the first Jaguar of a new era.
The car is designed, developed and built in the heart of the UK.
The new luxury four-door GT will have tri-motor technology that delivers more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque.
'Type' naming first appeared on the Le Mans race-winning C-type of 1951.
On the road, it came to represent two characters in one car: an engaging drive with deep reserves of power, plus refinement and composure.
The E-Type and the more recent F-Type are exemplars.
Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover said, "We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance."

Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will appear on the streets of Monaco wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap, ahead of the Formula E race weekend (May 16 – 17).
The Jaguar Type 01 is to be revealed later this year.
Its exuberant modernist design, pioneering technology and instinctive driving dynamics will underpin future Jaguar models.
