Second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost lands in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost debuted in Malaysia today in two variants.

The standard Ghost and Ghost Extended are priced from RM1.45mil and RM1.65mil respectively, excluding government duties.

The Spirit of Ecstasy has been revised and now stands within her own "lake" of bonnet instead of being surrounded by panel lines.

On the side, the lower line borrows from boat design and uses reflection to lighten the surfacing and create a sense of motion.

The rear light graphic has been modernised with a slight forward tilt.

For the first time on a Rolls-Royce, the new Ghost has been given a lit front-end. Twenty LEDS underneath the top of the radiator grille light up the metal vanes.

The Ghost is based on the car company's aluminium spaceframe platform to provide a "magic carpet ride".

It is now fitted with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering. The car also comes with a so-called "Planar Suspension System" that makes occupants feel like they are flying on land.

Basically, the air suspension is hooked up to the stability control, the brakes, GPS system, and a stereo camera system built into the windscreen to see the road ahead.

The end result is that the new Ghost can offer higher ride comfort and control.

The new Ghost gets a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine producing 563bhp and 850Nm to power the new model from 0-100kph in 4.8 seconds.

There's also better light spread from LED and laser headlights which can provide more than 600m of illuminated range.

Other key features are vision assist, including day- and night-time wildlife and pedestrian warning; alertness assistant; a four-camera system with panoramic view, all-round visibility and helicopter view; active cruise control; collision warning; cross-traffic warning; lane departure and lane change warning; a 7x3 high-resolution head-up display; Wi-Fi hotspot; self-park; and navigation and entertainment systems.

New Ghost owners can now, for the first time, open the doors from inside the motor car with power assistance, as well as close them from the exterior.

The car comes with a cabin air purifier that claims to be able to produce the cleanest air in a car cabin.

The system detects ambient air quality, automatically switching fresh air intakes to recirculation mode if high levels of airborne contaminants are present.

It is said to be able to purge the cabin of contaminants in under two minutes.

To achieve the level of in-cabin quietness, Rolls-Royce’s acoustic engineers added over 100kg of acoustic insulation to the doors, roof, between the double-glazed windows, inside the tyres and within almost the entire body.

The car has a customised audio system featuring an 18 channel, 18 speaker, 1300W audiophile grade system.

Rolls-Royce is quick to point out that interior panels are not decked with just any leather. They are made from 20 half hides without busy stitchwork.

A champagne fridge between the rear seats is optional and has two cooling modes, chilling to six degree and 11 degree Celsius.

The Ghost Extended offers 170mm more space than Ghost, providing more rear legroom than any four-seat sedan in its segment.

Based on customer feedback, Rolls-Royce hid the extra length of the car by only extending the rear door and body around the rear door apertures, preserving the lines of the car.

Each car is backed by a four-year, unlimited mileage warranty with options for an additional two, three, or five years ownership packages. Rolls-Royce TeleServices offers condition-based servicing while Rolls-Royce Assist provides 24/7 roadside assistance.
