Sharper and more focused Subaru BRZ to debut on July 23

PHILADELPHIA: Subaru of America, Inc. has announced a sharper and more focused BRZ will be unveiled at Subiefest California on July 23.

That was the only description of the new BRZ in a terse statement it issued on Monday.

With not much to go on, it appears that the upcoming BRZ would be one with a sportier trim level.

That could mean it might be a BRZ with improved steering feel and firmer suspension tuning, all done by Subaru's in-house tuning and motorsport arm.

The engine would probably stay unchanged.

The BRZ is related to the Toyota GR86. In standard form, the rear-wheel drive BRZ has a 2.4-litre four-pot engine producing 228hp and 249Nm of torque. It is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission; a six-speed slush box/automatic is offered at additional cost.

Subaru's biggest market globally is the United States followed by Japan. And naturally, it would have a huge fanbase there as reflected in Subiefest California.

Subiefest California, formed in 2006, is one of the world's largest Subaru enthusiast shows. This annual event gathers Subaru lovers from all over the US and Subaru-centric companies from all over the globe.

The event will be held at Santa Anita Park near Los Angeles.
