Shell and Porsche show 180kW fast chargers from JB to Ipoh banish range anxiety

PETALING JAYA: The completion of six Shell DC fast chargers calls for a publicity blitz.

And that's what Shell Malaysia did by arranging a media drive from Johor Baru to Ipoh to celebrate the achievement.

The Porsche Taycan convoy travelled across 741km over two days with a one-night layover in Kuala Lumpur.

Through Shell Malaysia’s collaboration with Porsche Asia Pacific, electric vehicle (EV) owners are promised fast, reliable, and seamless connectivity from Singapore to Thailand through Malaysia – creating the longest cross-country high-performance charging (HPC) infrastructure EV network in South-East Asia.

The six stations offering Shell Recharge High Performance Charging (HPC) service are located along the North-South Expressway (NSE). They are Shell Hentian Tangkak Lay-By (South Bound), Shell Hentian Pagoh Rest Area (North Bound), Shell Hentian RTC Simpang Pulai (North Bound), Shell Hentian Tapah RSA NSE (South Bound), Shell Hentian Seremban R&R NSE (North Bound) and Shell Hentian Seremban R&R NSE (South Bound).

All six stations are located less than 200km from each other, enabling drivers to drive without range anxiety.

The stations are equipped with 180kW high-performance chargers, which come with two CCS Type 2 charging connectors.

These connectors allow a single vehicle to be charged at up to 180 kW, or two vehicles to charge
simultaneously at up to 90 kW each, which reduces the waiting time in between charges.

Shell’s ParkEasy app in Malaysia allows EV customers to reserve the charging parking bay up to 60 minutes in advance.

Other features of the app include navigation access for EV customers to assist drivers in locating available bays and a parking barrier to ensure the bay's security while charging.

While waiting for their vehicles to be recharged, drivers can take a break at the Shell stations which offer food, drinks and other public amenities.

Earlier this year, Shell and Porsche launched the first Shell fast charging station in Tangkak.
