Shell Malaysia mobile app for cashless fuel payment unveiled

PUCHONG: Shell Malaysia has launched its mobile app, which it says is secure and offers more convenience.

Shell is a latecomer to the app-based cashless payment game, as Petronas had already been offering a similar payment option through Setel from 2018 and Chevron Malaysia through CaltexGO from 2021.

The Shell App claims to enhance a user's experience by enabling fuel purchases and is the first app in the country to be protected by a 3-D secure verification process against fraud and scams.

In addition to fuel, users can also use the app to buy coffee while earning BonusLink rewards points from 3,000 merchants. This includes Shell's exclusive rewards as well. Furthermore, the app is able to tailor offers to each individual based on his habitual preferences to help enhance the app user experience.

Users of the app can track their spending and BonusLink points earned.

Other features of the app include a station locator with facilities and amenities such as surau, automated teller machine, Shell café or car wash.

At present, the app can be used at 650 Shell service stations. Shell said it would be rolled out to all stations nationwide by the end of 2023.

"The Shell App not only allows our customers to pay for fuel securely from inside cars but also ensures that all journeys are easier and more rewarding," said Shell Mobility general manager Seow Lee Ming.

Shell also offers Touch 'n Go RFID fuelling at selected stations. The cashless payment alternative was officially rolled out in August 2022. However, it is a separate payment system and is not integrated with the Shell App.  Touch 'n Go RFID fuelling also allows users to earn BonusLink points.
