SIB Mili signs MoU with Sarawak Skills to grow EV, hybrid ecosystem

KUCHING: SIB Mili Sdn Bhd (SIB Mili), a subsidiary of Sapura Industrial Berhad, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sarawak Skills Development Centre (Sarawak Skills).

The move aims to establish a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid service centre in Kuching, which will serve both as a hub for EV servicing and as a platform for technical training and workforce development.

This comes in support of the state's ambition to accelerate EV adoption while equipping local talent with future-ready skills.

Also as part of the MoU is the agreement where both parties will be developing accredited programmes, enhance Train-the-Trainer initiatives, and build a pipeline of certified technicians.

SIB Mili will contribute its expertise in EV servicing, repair, and maintenance to complement Sarawak Skills’ strength in technical training.

In turn this would strengthen Sarawak’s EV and hybrid ecosystem.

SIB Mili founder and technical head Mohd Farid Abd Manaf said the collaboration reflects their commitment to lead in EV servicing and maintenance in Malaysia.

"We are building not only the infrastructure but also the skilled workforce required to drive the nation’s EV ecosystem.

"The move also accelerates long-term sustainable growth by combining our technical expertise with Sarawak Skill’s training capacity," added Farid.

Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri chimed in with how proud they are to be able to expand their capabilities in EV and hybrid technologies through this partnership.

"This initiative will ensure Sarawak is well-positioned to embrace the future of mobility by providing high-quality training and practical exposure to the next generation of automotive technicians,” said Sabri.
