SIC to call off or defer racing events because of Covid-19

PETALING JAYA: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) will heed the call by the government to avoid mass gathering of people although it means loss of revenue in track fees for the next two months.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican announced earlier that all sports and youth events that have been approved or to be organised by any agencies under the ministry had to be postponed or cancelled until April 30 because of the spreading Covid-19 disease.

SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali said they have decided to call off the Asia GT official testing, Malaysia Speed Festival and Desmo Cup scheduled for this weekend.

The first and second round of Malaysia Championship Series to be held from March 27-29 and April 10-12 respectively together with Round 1 of Malaysia Superbike Championship from April 3-5 will be postponed to a later date.

“We put priority on the safety and health mainly on the participants involved to prevent the spreading of Covid-19,” said Razlan.

“SIC urges everyone to be safe at all times and avoid coming into the premises if they feel discomfort or sick. “For guest attending meetings in SIC, face masks and hand sanitisers will be provided and temperature checking will be conducted at all main entries to the paddock and circuit office.”
