KUALA LUMPUR: Following a debut season that saw a podium finish on home ground at Sepang International Circuit for Sime Darby Racing Team, Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, announces its plans to continue being true to the marque’s motorsport DNA by participating in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2024 (PCCA) for a second consecutive year.

This 21st season of PCCA will see all drivers battling in identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) cars, setting equal technical standards across the field.

Sime Darby Racing Team, in partnership with Earl Bamber Motorsport (EBM) will be competing in the PRO category with Nazim Azman once again behind the wheel – a testament to their shared vision of carrying on Porsche’s motorsport heritage by nurturing the next generation of race drivers and enhancing the technical expertise of local young talent in motorsport.

Sime Darby Racing Team is poised to build on their achievements from the previous season and further establish themselves as a force to reckon with in this prestigious Asian one-make series.

”Placing 6th overall and even a podium finish in Sepang, our debut season was filled with valuable racing experience, and we are eager to bring forward these learnings to the 2024 season. We are proud to continue our commitment to empowering local young talent in motorsport and nurture them to be competitive on an international level, and we believe that by staying driven by our dreams, we can inspire others to pursue their passions and reach their full potential,” said Christopher Hunter, CEO of Sime Darby Auto Performance.

“Nazim and the team have been training intensively to ensure they are in top form. We are confident that we have what it takes to compete at the highest level, and elevate the team’s performance and standings in our second consecutive season,” added Hunter.

“I am thrilled to continue my racing journey alongside Sime Darby Racing Team in the PCCA and to continue improving my skills and gaining valuable experience, especially when competing against a strong line-up of racing drivers this season. I can’t help but feel proud to be driving the 911 GT3 Cup car with its quintessentially Malaysian batik-inspired livery. It feels like I am bringing a bit of home with me while racing at an international level,” said Nazim.

Set to be an even more competitive season with 28 drivers across three categories, one of the highest in years, PCCA 2024 will be visiting six tracks in five countries, including two Formula 1 support races.

After the first race in Shanghai during the Formula 1 race weekend, the championship will subsequently move to Suzuka, Japan before traveling to Southeast Asia for races in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

With a healthy mix of world-renowned tracks and fan-favourite street circuits, the 21st PCCA season is set to be an exhilarating one.

Fans can expect to see Sime Darby Racing Team in action at the Shanghai International Circuit as they push their limits in Round 1 and 2 on 20 and 21 April 2024.
