JOHOR BARU: Six private multipurpose (MPV) and sport utility vehicles (SUV) were stopped for ferrying passengers without valid permits.
The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) said the vehicles were stopped during Ops Khas today at the Malaysia-Singapore entry point at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) near here.
"We received complaints from the public that the owners of the vehicles had been offering paid services to transport passengers," Johor JPJ said in a Facebook post today.
It said they had committed an offence by offering such services without having valid permits from JPJ.
The drivers and owners of the vehicles were slapped with penalties under Section 23 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
If convicted, they could face fines not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM10,000 or jail terms not more than two years.
