LONDON: European EV battery producer InoBat Auto says its has produced the world’s first "intelligent" electric vehicle battery.

Speaking at the Oct 9-10 GLOBSEC Tatra Summit 2020 last Friday, InoBat CEO Marian Bocek said the battery was developed through a combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High Throughput (HTP) technology.

InoBat claimed its production method enables it to create better batteries more quickly and efficiently, while delivering an increase in operational range of almost 20%. Its battery is said to use reduced amounts of cobalt. It aims to boost energy density to a goal of 330 Wh/kg and 1,000 Wh/I by the end of 2023.

The company said it is developing a battery research centre and production line in Voderady, Slovakia, which would begin producing its first batch of batteries in 2021.

InoBat is also planning to build a €1 billion (RM4.9bil) 10GWh plant with the potential to supply batteries to 240,000 EVs in 2025.

The battery launch comes just days after former CEO Aston Martin Dr Andy Palmer joined InoBat as non-executive vice chairman.

InoBat said it is backed by a group of investors and technology companies. They include lead investor IPM Group as well as CEZ and Wildcat Discovery Technologies.

The summit was held at Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras in Štrbské Pleso, 300km north-east of the Slovakian capital Bratislava.
