PETALING JAYA: smart Malaysia has officially expanded its line-up to a third model with the smart #5.
The model joins the #1 and #3 as the largest of the trio and is designed for urban explorers who demand more space, range, and presence.
With a greater emphasis on off-roading and comfort compared to its older siblings the D-segment (mid-size) electric sports utility vehicle (e-SUV) boasts a 2,900mm wheelbase and comes in standard Premium and a sportier Brabus variant.
The two are respectively priced starting from RM199,800 and RM249,800 (On-The-Road price without insurance, with Sales and Service Tax) for the first 300 customers. There has been no indication what they would be priced at past the early bird period.
Pricing includes a comprehensive coverage that includes an eight-year 200,000km high-voltage battery warranty, eight-year 150,000km high-voltage component warranty, four-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, two-year unlimited mileage spare parts warranty, and a 24/7 roadside service assistance.
Introduced alongside the launch of the #5 is smart Malaysia's all-inclusive premium ownership package that encompasses a host of complimentary offerings such as a wallbox charger worth RM,3200, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) adapter worth RM800, accessories package with six item worth RM2,000, and three years of Internet data at 3GB per-month (a total of 108GB).
The Premium smart #5 is available in four colours that are Meta Black, Cyber Silver, Pulsar Ruby and Saturn Beige Matte. All of them are paired with a Eclipse Black roof colour.
On the other hand the Brabus variant offers three exclusive finishes in the form of the Atom Grey Matte, Meta Black and Digital White together with the Eclipse Black roof edition.
Both Saturn Beige Matte and Atom Grey Matte comes at an additional RM5,000 cost to the model's price tag.
Within the #5 is a lounge-inspired interior wrapped in soft-touch Nappa leather, oak wood trims, a tie-clip inspired dashboard design, a 1.7 square metre panoramic glass roof, onboard chiller, soundproof double-layered glass, three configurable bed modes, 34 storage spaces, a 1,530 litre rear trunk, and 72 litre frunk.
Technologically the cabin is equipped with dual 13-inch OLED screens, a 25.6-inch AR head-up display, AMD V2000 chipset, a Sennheiser 20-speaker system with Dolby Atmos, and a ChatGPT-powered smart avatar named Leo.
Earning itself a 5-Star Euro NCAP rating the #5 is reinforced by 42,000Nm torsional rigidity and 82% high-strength steel construction. Its safety is further bolstered by seven airbags, smart Pilot Assist, Highway Pilot Assist (HWA) with Stop and Go, and a 360-degree camera.
The #5 is built on a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) architecture featuring a 100kWh battery (the highest capacity when compared to the #1 and #3) that is capable of delivering up to 590km of WLTP-rated range.
It is also the first smart in Malaysia to launch with the 800V fast-charging architecture, allowing the battery to charge from 10%-80% in 15 minutes.
The Premium variant is rear-wheel drive (RWD) with a 6.5s 0–100 kph sprint, while the Brabus runs on a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) that is capable of a 3.8s century sprint.
Exclusive to the Brabus variant is a Launch Mode, Brabus sound experience, Dinamica seats, red brake calipers, and 21-inch Brabus Monoblock Z wheels.
Taking advantage of the #5's drive performance is nine drive modes (including five off-road modes) and an advanced suspension system.
