KUALA LUMPUR: SOCAR Mobility Malaysia and Tenaga Nasional Bhd will work together to identify the best locations to install public chargers by exploiting demand data on electric vehicle (EV) usage in Malaysia.

In announcing a Memorandunm of Understanding today, SOCAR said the demand data to be passed to Tenaga Nasional would determine the location, number and type of chargers for installation, including direct current fast chargers.

SOCAR said it would expand its fleet by up to hundreds of EVs within three years. This includes rolling out up to 50 EV charging zones by the end of 2022.

By offering EVs on its car sharing platform, SOCAR aims to introduce the EV lifestyle to the public by making EVs more accessible.

SOCAR and Tenaga Nasional began a limited partnership in December 2019 when the utility company put up the first two EV zones in Cyberjaya at the same time SOCAR began adding EVs to its fleet.
