Sporty new Zapp scooter designed for quick commute

LONDON: British start-up Zapp has unveiled an eye-catching electric scooter with sporty performance which is designed to make the daily commute more fun.

The lightweight Zapp i300 blows the competition into the weeds with a top speed of 100kph, more than twice the benchmark for a typical electrified urban scooter.

Nifty acceleration from the 14kW motor makes the two-wheeler ideal for city streets and overtaking.

A removable Li-ion battery pack enables riders to charge at the office while the Zapp waits for the trip back home. Range is given as 57km.

The scooter also features regenerative braking, which returns energy to the battery cells during a journey to squeeze out a few more road kilometres between charging, while also reducing particulate pollution and helping the scooter's brakes to last longer.

"With air quality in cities worsening and our roads becoming increasingly congested, the world needs new alternatives to urban transport. We believe the i300 is the urban mobility solution people have been looking for," says Zapp CEO Swin Chatsuwan.

The Zapp i300, now available for pre-order, has a starting on-the-road price of 5,250 pounds (around RM29,000) in Britain.

The first 1,000 pre-orders will be delivered in Launch Edition, which includes an upgrade to diamond cut wheels, special graphics and a limited edition x/1000 plate. First deliveries are expected to be made in early 2019.
