PETALING JAYA: Actor Hariz Hamdan was on his way back home to Ampang after a gig in Shah Alam on Saturday when he got trapped on the road due to flooding.

He was stuck in his car for more than 18 hours.

Hariz, 19, recalled to mStarThe Star’s Malay-language portal – that he was determined to drive back home even though it was raining and the water on the road had risen as he had filming scheduled the next day.

“I left Aeon Shah Alam at 6pm Saturday and only reached Ampang at around noon, Sunday.

“It was challenging to be in that situation as it was raining, and I was hungry and thirsty ...” he said.

“It was tough for a young person like me. I can’t imagine how much harder it must have been for the elderly, pregnant ladies and kids to be in that same situation. It must have taken a huge toll on them.

“But I couldn’t do anything to help them either because I myself was stranded there. It was a sad situation because you want to help but you can’t do anything.

“Everyone there was basically on survival mode,” said the Single Terlalu Lama actor.

But at the same time, the harrowing experience turned into something memorable for Hariz when he witnessed how everyone helped other out through the ordeal.

“An uncle knocked on my window the next morning and offered me food.”

He further saw people not only sharing food, but also fuel.

“Some stepped up to direct traffic to ensure the jam is eventually eased.

“I feel that even though it was a difficult time, but that was exactly the moment when we all could come together to find a solution.

“That was the rainbow at the end of the storm for me,” said the Hero Remaja 2020 contestant. - mStar
