Subaru Crosstrek previewed at RM191K

KUALA LUMPUR: Motor Image, the official distributor of the Subaru make in Malaysia, has previewed its upcoming Crosstrek B+ segment sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Priced on-the-road without insurance at RM190,788, the Crosstrek is accompanied by a five-year warranty.

Colour choices include Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Grey Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Pure Red, Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl.

Designed for city-goers and adventure seekers, the Crosstrek boasts a dual-function X-mode which conveniently switches between Snow/Dirt or Deep Snow/Mud.

Regardless, it's said to have the ability to tackle rocky and slippery terrain.

Out on the open roads, the SI-Drive (Subaru Intelligent Drive) will adjust engine response on the fly, based on the driver's driving style.

Powering the 18-inch wheels with 225/55 series tyres is the 2.0-litre (1,995cc) horizontally-opposed (boxer) four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine with direct-injection.

While sipping from a 63-litre fuel tank, the engine produces 156PS at 6,000rpm and 196Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.

The "twist" allows the 1,523kg (kerb) Crosstrek to sprint from 0 to 100kph in 10.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 198kph.

Meanwhile, fuel consumption remains at a reasonable 7.2 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

For stopping power, there are disc brakes all around, while the suspension is made up of front MacPherson struts and rear double-wishbone set-up.

With a 2,670mm wheelbase and a ride height of 220mm, the Crosstrek measures in at 4,480mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,600mm in height while having a rather spacious interior and 291 litres of boot space that is expandable to 1,261 litres.

In terms of equipment, the Crosstrek comes with LEDs for its automatic (with auto leveller) headlights, front and rear fog lamps, and rear light clusters.

There are also pop-up type headlamp washers, power-folding mirrors, automatic wipers, rear window wiper, a glass sunroof, roof rails and a roof spoiler.

Inside, the cabin's seats are upholstered in black leather with perforated backing.

The driver gets a 10-way powered seat with lumbar support as well as a keyless-entry with push-start system, one-touch lane change signal, and a tonneau cover.

At the centre of the dashboard is a large 11.6-inch full HD touchscreen display (with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) that powers up the six-speaker sound system.

Additionally, there's also a PIN lock code for the active outdoorsmen who'd like to secure their key fob within the car, along with a multi-function steering wheel with paddle-shifters, voice recognition system, hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, front and rear Type-A, C and AUX ports (front only), and a wireless charger.

A dual-gauge layout with a 4.2-inch full-colour LCD is reserved for the driver, along with aluminium pedals.

Adding to its capabilities, the Crosstrek comes equipped with Hill Descent Control, Hill-Hold Control, Automatic Start-Stop, Active Torque Vectoring, Vehicle Dynamics Control and an electronic parking brake.

For safety, there's the usual four-channel anti-lock braking system, brake assist, brake override, and 10 airbags, among others.

To further bolster safety, the brand's EyeSight advanced driver aid system (ADAS) is included and features pre-collision braking system, autonomous emergency steering, adaptive cruise control, lane centring control and preceding vehicle adaptive steering, lane departure prevention, pre-collision throttle management, lead vehicle start alert and high beam assist.

The Crosstrek is available for viewing at The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur from now until May 10, and all authorised Subaru showrooms nationwide.
