SHAH ALAM: Suzuki Assembers Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SAM) launched three new CBU models from Japan here Tuesday in a simple ceremony at the City Karting Go-Kart Circuit.

Addressing the media, SAM managing director Toru Kobayashi said the company expects to sell a total of 300 units of either the V-Strom 650 ABS, V-Strom 650XT ABS as well as the Gladius ABS, all brought in from Japan.

Both the V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650XT are sport adventure tourers, while the Gladius is a simple naked street bike.



Despite their different market segments, they all share several similiarities: the powerplant is a 90 degree V-twin that displaces 645cc.

The V-Strom 650 and the V-Strom 650XT comes with 320bit ECU which is mated to the Suzuki Dual Throttle vale system that should enhance low-to-mid rpm range torque, a linear throttle response, and lower emissions.

Both V-Strom also feature twin iridium spark plugs per cyclinder, a feature expected to improve combustion, throttle response and stable idle.

What would differentiate the V-Strom 650 from the 660XT is that the latter will feature the iconic "beak" that is located right under the headlight.

The Gladius, initially codenamed SFV650, will appeal to a broad range of riders as its seat height is only 785mm, while both front and rear suspensions are fully adjustable.



More good news comes in the form of gear indicators, which is useful in telling the difference between the 5th and the 6th.

The V-Strom 650 ABS, V-Strom 650XT ABS and Gladius ABS retails at RM41,900, RM43,900 and RM39,900 respectively.
