'Terminator' Arnold Schwarzenegger's unique Unimog is up for grabs

SAN FRANCISCO: Hollywood tough guy and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger is famous for his brawny physique and fans can now bid at auction for an equally robust Unimog go-anywhere truck he used to own.

The silver and black 1977 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1300 SE pick-up was previously used for several years by the star of the "Terminator" films.

The vehicle is powered by a 6.4-litre in-line six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine paired with a manual transmission and the cockpit carries his signature written in indelible black felt pen above the heating controls. Mileage is given at an amazingly low 4,300km.

The Unimog goes under the hammer at the Scottsdale car auctions in Arizona from Jan 20-28 and vendor Barrett-Jackson is offering it without a reserve price.

The Unimog was fully restored, modified and upgraded by Unimog specialists Merex Mertec in Gaggenau, Germany. Included in the sale is a full folder with pictures, documentation and certifications.

According to media reports, Schwarzenegger did not keep his customised Unimog for very long.

He was reportedly seen driving it around Santa Monica, California in 2012 but it went up for sale two years later and was also on the market again in 2016.
