Tesla Cybertruck orders hit 1.9 million units, 5-year delivery period

AUSTIN, Texas: New buyers of the Tesla Cybertruck may need to wait five years for their all-electric trucks to arrive, according to an article by insideevs.com.

The insideevs article said this was based on Tesla plans to produce 375,000 Cybertrucks a year at peak capacity, and the current 1.9 million orders as per a crowd-sourced data tracker.

An article on teslarati.com also noted that during an earnings call recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that demand for the Cybertruck is "so off the hook, you can’t even see the hook.”

For the second quarter of 2023, Tesla had posted record results on many levels, with its best-ever production and deliveries and revenue approaching US$25 billion in a single quarter.

The group said its operating margin remained healthy at 10%, even with price reductions in the first quarter and early second quarter.

"This reflects our ongoing cost reduction efforts, the continued production ramp success in Berlin and Texas and the strong performance of our Energy and Services and Other businesses," said the group.

Tesla also noted its AI development entered a new chapter with the start of production of Dojo training computers.

"We are hopeful that our immense neural net training needs will be satisfied using our in-house designed Dojo hardware. The better the neural net training capacity, the greater the opportunity for our Autopilot team to iterate on new solutions," said the group.

Tesla added that it is focusing on cost reduction, new product development that will enable future growth, investments in R&D, better vehicle financing options, continuous product improvement and generation of free cash flow.

Tesla noted that in second quarter of 2023, it had produced a record number of vehicles, thanks to ongoing ramps of its new factories as well as strong performance of Shanghai and Fremont.

The group said that at Gigafactory Texas, in addition to the continued success of the Model Y ramp, it is also working on equipment installation for Cybertruck production, which remains on track for initial deliveries this year.

"We have made notable progress on yield improvement of our 4680 cell production lines. We continue building capacity for cathode production and lithium refining in the United States," said the group.

It also noted that Gigafactory Shanghai remains its main export hub.

"Since our Shanghai factory has been successfully running near full capacity for several months, we do not expect a meaningful increase in weekly production run rate," added the group.
