MUNICH: BMW Motorrad unveiled on Thursday more variants of two models namely the R18 and R nineT.

Following the premiere of the R 18, it presented the second member of its new model series for the cruiser segment: the R 18 Classic.

The R 18 Classic is a nostalgic touring bike that echoes the beginnings of the great touring cruiser models.

While the R 18 is purist in style, the R 18 Classic features a large windscreen, passenger seat, saddle bags, additional LED headlights and 16-inch front wheel.

Both R18s borrow from famous models such as the R 5 both technologically and visually, shifting the focus back onto the motorcycle essentials: purist, no-frills technology and the boxer engine as the epicentre of riding pleasure, combined with “good vibrations”.

The centrepiece of the  R 18 Classic and R 18 is a completely newly developed two-cylinder boxer engine – the “Big Boxer” with the peak output at 91hp at 4,750 rpm. From 2,000 to 4,000rpm, over 150Nm of torque is available.

Meanwhile, the new R nineT models has extended range of standard features, fine-tuning of the design and even more pulling power.

The new models include R nineT, R nineT Pure, R nineT Scrambler and R nineT Urban G/S.

The new R nineT models, the boxer engine has undergone both technical and visual fine-tuning and is now designed to meet the requirements of the EU-5 pollutant class.

Its peak power output is now 109hp at 7,250 rpm (previously 110hp at 7,750 rpm), while the maximum torque is still 116Nm at 6,000 rpm.

Even in the standard version, the new R nineT models now feature ABS Pro in combination with DBC (Dynamic Brake Control) for increased safety when braking – at banking angles as well as in difficult situations.

Standard features also include a new shock absorber with travel-dependent damping (WAD), providing enhanced suspension comfort and convenient adjustment of the spring preload via a hand wheel.

“Rain” and “Road” riding modes are now included as standard.
