SHAH ALAM: After going through 327 submissions, 30 secondary schools have been selected to participate in this year's Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) programme.
Each shortlisted school will receive a grant of RM3,000, totaling RM90,000, to support their project implementation.
This year offers RM80,000 in prize money, bringing total programme funding including grants to RM170,000.
The champion of the programme with be awarded RM30,000. Second and third place will earn themselves RM20,000 and RM10,000, respectively.
“Beyond learning about environmental issues, students will get to develop the skills, confidence, and mentorship support to take meaningful action to become an active member of their communities through TEY.
"Celebrating the 25th Edition, we are proud to empower these young changemakers to translate ideas into tangible, measurable projects that can make a lasting difference in their communities.” said UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) president Datuk Ravindran K.
In collaboration with the education ministry, UMWT's TEY challenges students to identify local environmental issues and implement sustainable solutions using Toyota’s structured problem solving methodology.
This reflects the long-standing impact in nurturing Malaysia’s next generation of environmentally conscious leaders.
The initiative has since evolved into a national platform that cultivates environmental awareness and encourages practical, real-world problem-solving among secondary school students aged 13–16.
At the start, students and their teacher-advisors receive hands-on guidance and mentorship to refine their projects during the workshop to establish implementation plans and track progress.
This phase emphasises on learning by doing as it encourages participants to apply their problem-solving skills in real-world settings while fostering teamwork, creativity and environmental stewardship.
For 2026, the top 15 schools following on-site evaluations and project progress reviews will advance to the final stage during the TEY 2026 Convention and Exhibition held from Nov 2–4 later this year.
It is here where they will compete for the programme’s grand prizes.
