This is the new BMW M4 CS
By CARSIFU | 08 May 2024MUNICH: BMW has launched the new M4 CS, offering enthusiasts a thrilling blend of performance, agility, and racing pedigree.
Positioned between the M4 Competition Coupé and the limited-run M4 CSL, this special-edition model merges daily driving comfort with track-ready prowess.
Engine and performance
Under the hood, the M4 CS boasts a high-revving, 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine. With M TwinPower Turbo technology, this motor generates 550hp and 649Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100kph in just 3.4 seconds.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and BMW's M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, delivering power smoothly to all four wheels.
On the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, the M4 CS clocked an impressive official time of 7:21.989, a testament to its racing heritage.
Featuring two mono-scroll turbochargers with increased charge pressure, this engine is tuned for instantaneous power delivery up to a 7,200 rpm redline.
Enhanced engine mounts improve throttle response, providing a distinctive, spirited performance.
Chassis and handling
The adaptive M suspension, M Servotronic steering, and active M differential have all been precisely tuned for the M4 CS.
The chassis combines individually tuned axle kinematics, bespoke wheel camber settings, and exclusive anti-roll bars to ensure optimal control and agility.
The M xDrive system offers a 4WD Sport mode for a more rear-biased torque distribution and a 2WD mode for pure rear-wheel drive.
M Compound brakes, painted in Red or Black, come as standard, with optional M Carbon ceramic brakes available.
Exclusive 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged wheels are fitted with track tyres for optimal performance, although high-performance road tyres are available as a no-cost option.
Lightweight design and aerodynamics
The extensive use of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) reduces the M4 CS's weight by 20kg compared to the M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive.
The CFRP roof, hood, front splitter, and rear spoiler contribute to a lower centre of gravity and improved agility. An optional front-end strut brace increases torsional rigidity.
Visually, the M4 CS is distinct with BMW Individual special paint finishes like Riviera Blue and Frozen Isle of Man Green Metallic.
The frameless kidney grille and yellow-illuminated headlights hint at its racing credentials, while the aerodynamic rear spoiler and diffuser underscore its high-speed potential.
Interior and technology
Inside, the M4 CS is a blend of racing flair and daily comfort. M Carbon bucket seats with Merino leather and a Black/Red color scheme, a flat-bottomed M Alcantara steering wheel, and CFRP trim deliver a motorsport-inspired ambiance.
The BMW Curved Display, with a 12.3-inch information display and 14.9-inch control display, provides M-specific readouts, M Shift Lights, and setup menus.
M Drive Professional is standard, featuring M Drift Analyser, M Laptimer, and M Traction Control. The M Mode button allows drivers to switch between ROAD, SPORT, and TRACK settings, customising the driving experience.
The new M4 CS will be produced alongside the other M4 variants at BMW's Dingolfing plant from July. The order books will be open from the end of May.
