Timing system for workers using Jalan B66 Batang Kali-Genting stretch

PETALING JAYA: Staggered timing will be introduced for Selangor residents who work in Genting Highlands to use the Jalan B66 Batang Kali-Genting stretch, says Selangor exco member Izham Hashim.

The state infrastructure, public facilities, modernisation of agriculture and agro-based industry committee chairman said this would allow workers to safely travel to and from work.

“At the moment, only one way is completed and will be accessible to workers with authorisation letters from their employers stating that they work there.

“We are also looking at widening the road on the side which was not affected by the landslide,” he said during a site visit in Ampang Jaya today.

Izham added that the timing system would be similar to the one introduced to ascend and descend Fraser’s Hill.

“It will be manned so that vehicles will be able to ascend and descend at staggered times.

“There is no quota on the number of vehicles allowed per day but only for staff (working in Genting).”

He added that the one-way road was completed as a temporary measure for the convenience of some 4,000 Selangor residents who commute daily to Genting for work.

The Public Works Department had previously announced that the road would be opened on Jan 6 with only one lane and was limited to workers in Genting Highlands with an employer's letter.

It also includes Class One (cars, taxis and multi-purpose vehicles) and Class Six (motorcycles and scooters) vehicles.

The department said motorists were not allowed to stop at the section where the Dec 16 landslide occurred.
