LONDON: Top Gear has a new host after BBC Productions announced that television and radio presenter, Chris Evans, has signed on for the role.

According to the BBC, Evans was thrilled to get the job and signed a three-year deal with BBC Two, although having previously insisted that he was not interested.

However, Clarkson’s co-hosts Richard Hammond, James May and former executive producer Andy Wilman will not re-appear on the show.

“I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward,” said Evans.

With Evans becoming the new host for the popular TV show, he stood firm that he will not leave his popular “R2 Breakfast Show” on BBC Radio 2.

Clarkson was asked to leave the Top Gear programme in March after having punched a producer while on location.

Known as a car enthusiast, Evans had previously rebuked rumours that he would fill Clarkson’s shoes and that he wasn’t interested in the spot.

Top Gear, made by BBC Production, will begin production in the weeks to come and Clarkson's final appearance on the show will be shown on 28 June.

The episode will involve two films made before his suspension, as a trio with Hammond and May, showcasing classic cars and old 4x4 vehicles in their final challenge.
