BANGKOK: In a move towards achieving carbon neutrality in Thailand, Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) and Toyota Motor Corp (TMC) will explore collaborating in hydrogen production using biogas derived from poultry manure.

Both companies will also explore the introduction of hydrogen-powered fuel cell delivery trucks into CP's fleet, as well as more efficient logistics by optimised delivery routes through connectivity technology.

Founded in 1921, CP is Thailand's largest agriculture-based conglomerate with businesses including retail (such as 7-Eleven), distribution, industrial product, and agriculture and livestock.

In a statement during his visit to Bangkok to celebrate Toyota Motor Thailand Co Ltd's (TMT) 60th anniversary, TMC president Akio Toyoda noted that the collaboration will include True Leasing Co Ltd, CP's transportation service business.

Also, the study will be conducted with Hino Motors Ltd together with Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corp (Isuzu Motors Ltd, Suzuki Motor Corp, Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd and Toyota).

Both CP and TMC will also work with potential partners who share the same view on carbon neutrality.

"We will proceed with what we can do now, by using each company's strengths and assets. I believe that taking this crucial step will will change the future landscape," said Toyoda.

Dhanin Chearavanont, senior chairman of CP Group said, "We welcome any companies that share the same carbon neutrality ambitions."
