Toyota unveils new Crown Sedan in Japan, hybrid and fuel cell variants offered

TOKYO: Toyota has unveiled its all-new Crown Sedan model in Japan.

Orders are now being accepted, and the official launch is scheduled for Nov 13.

The new Crown Sedan represents a re-invention of the traditional sedan, offering a new style that caters to both personal and business purposes.

The development of the new model involved a re-examination of what the Crown represents, with the aim of aligning with the diverse values and lifestyles of customers.

Toyota said the new Sedan type offers excellent ride comfort, a high-quality driving experience, and a relaxing space that meets the needs of chauffeured cars.

Besides a hybrid version, Toyota is also creating a hydrogen-powered variant. Both versions are rear-wheel driven.

The fuel cell version is equipped with three high-pressure hydrogen tanks and fuel cells, allowing for a driving range of around 820km per three-minute hydrogen refill.

The Crown Sedan is also the first Toyota vehicle to feature a newly developed 2.5-litre multi-stage hybrid system, which the automaker said achieves both powerful dynamic performance and fuel efficiency.

The new Crown Sedan features an elegant appearance that embodies the concept of the "new formal."

The exterior design showcases flowing proportions along the horizontal, contributing to an elegant and flowing appearance. The front face of the vehicle emphasises a sharp, wide feel with a hammerhead design and a large Under Priority trapezoid grille.

The rear of the vehicle features taillights in a straight line from side to side, emphasizing the wide feel.

The interior design of the new Crown Sedan emphasises an island architecture, with a large wood-grain panel extending from the instrument panel to the doors and a console that appears to rise out of the panel.

The interior space is composed and spacious, with illumination choreographed according to a Japanese aesthetic, incorporating the spirit of hospitality. The cabin features indirect lighting that creates a gentle, lantern-like glow, adding depth and comfort.

The new Crown Sedan offers six colours that reflect mature sensitivities, ranging from formal to personal. The interior is available in two colour themes - a sophisticated Black and a Mid-brown that instills a glamorous air.

The vehicle also meets the needs of chauffeured cars, with a three-metre wheelbase that allows for spacious rear seats and ample legroom. Numerous hospitality features, such as relaxation features and power sunshades, create the ultimate mobility space.

The suspension settings and control over damping force ensure a smooth and comfortable ride, minimising the impact of uneven road surfaces.

Toyota targets to roll out 600 units per month of the Crown Sedan from its Motomachi plant.

The hybrid is priced in Japan at 7.3 million yen (RM234,000), while the fuel cell version is 8.3 million yen (RM266,000).

The Crown Sedan wold be available through Kinto subscription services for individuals or companies from Nov 9.
