Toyota pushes ahead with Multi-Pathway mobility approach
By CARSIFU | 07 December 2024KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota in Malaysia has affirmed its commitment to sustainable and eco-conscious mobility solutions at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024.
At the show running at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) to Dec 11, UMW Toyota Motor introduced two latest hybrid models - the Camry and Corolla Cross - that support the brand's Multi-Pathway approach to achieving cleaner driving.
Under the Multi-Pathway approach, Toyota offers a diverse range of options, including Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), and the sporty GR Sport variant, ensuring there is something for everyone.
The all-new Camry, now in its ninth generation, has outgrown its original design as a reliable and desirable sedan into a symbol of trust and innovation that resonates with Malaysian motorists.
Meanwhile, the refreshed Corolla Cross sports utility vehicle features a bold design and state-of-the-art technology to enhance daily driving experience and lifestyle needs of modern families.
UMW Toyota Motor president Datuk Ravindran K said the new models underscore Toyota’s dedication to innovation, performance and sustainability.
Toyota Camry
Launched with a price starting from RM248,800, the all-new Camry 2.5 hybrid features a new design language also used in the current Prius and Crown models.
Incorporating a 'Hammer Head' design, the Camry has a lower front face, and an expressive tall, wide lower grille featuring an integrated diamond mesh pattern across horizontal bars.
The Air Curtain openings are shaped as buttresses and interlock with the main face to create a wide and solid presence.
It also has a low, swept look, emphasised by the slim and sharply angled new LED headlights for a more expressive and sportier appearance.
With a low nose and lower roofline, the new Camry presents an aggressive sporty look.
Inside, the driver’s seat has eight-way power adjustment and 2-way lumbar as well as rearward slide-away function to increase convenience while entering and exiting the vehicle.
Also included are the new 12.3 inch Full Colour TFT screen has enhanced visibility with higher display resolution, a jet-fighter inspired Head-Up Display (HUD), premium leather interior and a JBL Premium Audio System with an amplifier and nine speakers including a subwoofer, and wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.
Aside from a Tri-Zone Climate Control, rear passengers can also enjoy power reclining seats with adjustments up to 8 degrees.
The Camry uses an e-CVT (PB11) transmission mated to a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine (A25A-FXS) with high thermal efficiency and a high compression ratio of 14:1 but tuned to be compatible with RON95 fuel.
Equipped with a newly developed higher capacity lithium-ion battery pack, the Camry delivers a total system output of 169kW (230PS) where the electric motor (100kW/136PS and 208N) generates peak torque immediately for a near instant power kick-in.
As Toyota’s new hybrid HEV technology is self-charging, recharging the Camry like battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is not required and an outstanding range of up to 1,250km between fuel-ups is possible.
Active safety with the latest Toyota Safety Sense system (TSS 3.0) using a camera and millimetre-wave radar sensor system also makes the Camry safe to drive.
Besides TSS 3.0 and other active safety systems, the Camry is also comprehensively equipped with passive safety systems such as seven SRS airbags and a Panoramic View Monitor to help park in tight spaces.
The Vehicle Telematics System (VTS), which comes standard, allows the owner to constantly track the car’s location using GPS/GSM signals via a smartphone for quicker recovery in case of theft.
Six premium colours, including new options like Cement Grey, Dark Blue Mica, Precious Metal and Emotional Red, are offered alongside classic favourites such as Platinum White Pearl and Attitude Black.
Warranty is five years with no limit on mileage while the Hybrid Electric Vehicle battery, inverter and power management control ECU have a separate warranty of eight years warranty also with unlimited mileage.
The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Warranty can be extended for another two years upon the expiry of the first eight years.
Toyota Corolla Cross
Building on the success and popularity of the previous iteration, the refreshed 2025 Corolla Cross introduces the first-ever HEV GR Sport variant alongside the 1.8 HEV and 1.8V variants.
Prices start from RM133,800 for the 1.8V, RM140,800 for the 1.8 HEV and 148,800 for the 1.8 HEV GR Sport.
The GR Sport variant is offered with a specially-tuned suspension and performance brace for improved dynamic handling.
The new lineup comes with a new front grille design, updated bumper and sportier Bi-LED headlamps for bolder looks.
Inside, the Corolla Cross gets elegant dark brown accents, complemented by a 12.3-inch full-colour Multi-Information Display (MID) and a 10.1-inch Display Audio system with seamless wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Other features include TSS 3.0, an Electric Parking Brake and an enhanced Vehicle Telematics System with Remote Engine Start.
All three variants get 18-inch wheels and 225/50 Toyo tyres.
The Corolla Cross uses an E-CVT and a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder Dual VVT-i engine (2ZR-FXE) with 98PS and 142Nm of torque that works with the primary electric motor producing 72PS and 163Nm of torque.
The nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack, which provides electromobility, is positioned under the rear seat instead of in the boot area to maximise the 440-litre cargo.
The Corolla Cross also comes with a warranty package that is similar to the Camry Hybrid's.
