SYDNEY: The launch of the all-new Toyota RAV4 in April saw Toyota back on top of the sales charts.
The RAV4 accounted for 3,729 deliveries in April making it the best-selling car in the market, according to the official VFACTS figures.
VFACTS is the authoritative source of vehicle sales in Australia, providing compliance support, new car sales reports, market intelligence and data insights across passenger cars and commercial vehicles, including all drivetrains in the Australian market.
The strong month for RAV4 reflects the expected ramp up, following the previous generation RAV4 run out.
The strong customer demand for RAV4 helped Toyota to a market leading total sales for the month of 15,185, taking its year to date total to just under 60,000 vehicles.
Toyota’s upgraded bZ4X also continues to generate strong interest with its highest ever monthly tally of 483 taking the year-to-date total for the mid-sized battery-electric SUV to 1,323, more than the total 1,041 sales it achieved in the whole of 2025.
With performance and battery upgrades coming into play early this year, the bZ4X has found new customer appeal, helped by the market-wide increase in interest in BEVs as fuel prices have surged.
But Toyota’s multi-pathway approach, offering the right powertrain for the right vehicle and intended use, continues to pay dividends with its LandCruiser 300 and 70 Series and LandCruiser Prado making up more than 3,000 sales in April.
Toyota Australia vice president sales, marketing and franchise operations John Pappas said the strong return of RAV4 to the top of the sales charts demonstrated the appeal of the new model with its substantial improvements in technology, safety, refinement and driving dynamics.
“RAV4 has been the best-selling SUV in Australia for the past six years and we knew customers would welcome the substantial improvements we have made with this all-new sixth generation,” said Pappas.
“The range will be further expanded offering even more customer appeal when the plug-in hybrid – Toyota’s first for Australia – arrives in the middle of the year.
“We are also seeing a massive growth in our bZ4X SUV that is set to be joined by the bZ4X Touring this month to help grow our BEV (battery electric vehicle) portfolio."
