Toyota targets adventurers with new bZ Woodland BEV

DALLAS: Toyota has announced the 2026 bZ Woodland for North America, its toughest battery-electric SUV yet, featuring standard all-wheel drive and X-MODE terrain management.

The model delivers a combined system output of 280 kW (375 hp) and offers a manufacturer-estimated electric range of up to 418 km.

Ground clearance measures 211 mm, and tow rating reaches 1 588 kg. Available all-terrain tyres enhance off-road capability.

Toyota Group president Dave Christ said the bZ Woodland “embraces the spirit of adventure with surprising capability, rugged style and an all-electric powertrain that’s backed by Toyota.”

The exterior builds on Toyota’s signature hammerhead front end and full-width LED lighting, adding wide black overfenders and unique 18-inch aluminium wheels with removable covers. The body is nearly 152 mm longer and 25 mm taller at the rear than its bZ sibling, creating over 850 L of rear cargo space and standard roof rails for accessories.

This midsize SUV joins Toyota’s expanding bZ series alongside the refreshed bZ small SUV and the new C-HR crossover, bringing Toyota’s global electrified portfolio to 21 models, including BEV, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell variants.

The bZ Woodland is offered in a single well-equipped grade, with an optional Premium Package that adds JBL Premium Audio, a fixed glass panoramic roof, digital rear-view mirror, ventilated front seats and memory functions for the driver’s seat and side mirrors.

Paint finishes include the new Stepping Stone, Halo, Steel, Pavement, Raven Black and Trueno Blue. Deliveries begin in early 2026.

Under the skin, the dedicated e-TNGA platform houses dual electric motors on front and rear e-axles, X-MODE with selectable drive modes for varied terrain, and Grip-Control for low-speed torque modulation over rough surfaces.

The floor-mounted battery pack (74.7 kWh) lowers the centre of gravity and, together with a cross-frame structure, boosts torsional rigidity for stable handling.

Charging is via a North American Charging System port compatible with DC fast-chargers. Under ideal conditions, the battery can recharge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes.

A pre-conditioning feature optimises battery temperature for cold-weather charging. The bZ Woodland also supports Plug & Charge protocols, Level 1 (120 V) and Level 2 (240 V) AC charging, and includes an 11 kW onboard AC charger. Steering-wheel paddles adjust regenerative braking strength to recapture energy.

The cabin, designed for versatility and comfort, features a 14-inch touchscreen running Toyota Audio Multimedia, a Multi-Information Display ahead of the driver, and SofTex-trimmed heated seats with Stone Brown or Black motifs.

The Premium Package adds a JBL system with nine speakers and an 800-W amplifier, a panoramic roof, ventilated front seats and a front radiant heater. A dual wireless Qi charger and four USB-C ports keep devices powered.

Connectivity options include dual Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 30-day Wi-Fi Connect trial offering 4G hotspot capability for five devices and integrated streaming of Apple Music or Amazon Music.

Toyota Connected Services trials cover Drive Connect (voice-activated assistant, cloud navigation, destination assist), Safety Connect and Service Connect for emergency response, roadside assistance, collision notification, stolen-vehicle locator, vehicle health reports and maintenance alerts.

Remote Connect enables remote climate control, horn and light activation, door locking/unlocking and Toyota Digital Key functionality. Charging status and schedules can be monitored and adjusted via the Toyota App.

Safety features are anchored by Toyota Safety Sense 3.0™, utilising radar and camera to provide Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (from 32kph), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (from 48kph), Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist.

Warranty coverage includes a three-year/57,936 km basic warranty; five-year/96,560 km powertrain and unlimited-mileage corrosion protection; and an eight-year/160,934 km battery component warranty.
