Toyota Veloz MPV scores a 5-Star Asean NCAP rating

KAJANG: The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (Asean NCAP) kicked off this year with the assessment of Toyota’s latest Veloz multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
The Veloz, the first Toyota model that was assessed under the current 2021-2025 protocol, achieved a 5-Star Asean NCAP rating with a total score of 79.99 points.
The seven-seater MPV is the enhanced and evolved version of the Toyota Avanza, and both models are sold alongside each other in Indonesia.
There are four assessment categories under the new protocol in which the Veloz’s scored 34.88 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 17.17 points for the Child Occupant Protection (COP), 16.03 points for Safety Assist (SAT) and 11.92 points under the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category.
The AOP accounts up to 40 points to the overall score, while COP, SAT and MS each make up to 20 points.
The vehicle is equipped with six airbags as standard fitment in all available countries with the exception of the ones sold in Indonesia which offers variants with two airbags.
The Veloz comes standard with anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), seatbelt reminder system (SBR) for both frontal and rear seat occupants and Pedestrian Protection technology across all variants.
Several safety assist technologies are available in the MPV as standard or optional across all variants namely Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban and Blind Spot Detection that are fitted on both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle.
In addition, the Veloz is also gets Forward Collision Warning, (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) technologies as optional equipment in all its variants.
MIROS director-general who is also Asean NCAP secretary-general and acting chairman Datuk Dr Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said many manufacturers are in the midst of preparing their vehicles according to the protocol.
“The development will take a certain amount of time to ensure the safety items that have been set in the protocol are adhered. I’m confident their effort will definitely benefit the Asean road users,” he said.
Khairil Anwar also praised Toyota for equipping the Veloz with safety technologies that protected the occupants as well as other vulnerable road users.
