KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota has unveiled two variants of its newly launched Yaris Cross.
The five-seater B-segment sports utility vehicle (SUV) is priced on-the-road without insurance at RM99,900 for the 1.5S and RM109,900 for the 1.5S HEV.
Locally assembled at the company's Bukit Raja manufacturing facility, colour options include Spicy Scarlet S.E., Dark Turquoise S.E., Platinum Pearl White, Silver Metallic and Attitude Black.
In terms of warranty, a standard five-year unlimited mileage coverage is provided, while the HEV adds on a dedicated eight-year unlimited mileage battery coverage. .
The battery coverage includes the Inverter and Power Management Control ECU for the same length of time.
Customers can also opt to extend the warranty for the battery pack and related hybrid components for another two years, for a total of 10 years.

This longer warranty, which is transferable, will enhance resale value and give more peace of mind to owners who plan to keep the vehicle for a longer period.
For power, the Yaris Cross 1.5S uses a 1.5-litre 2NR-VEX engine producing 106PS and 138Nm and is managed by a continuously variable transmission of the front wheels.
Opting for the 1.5S HEV variant means using a lower-output but more thermally efficient 1.5-litre engine producing 91PS at 5,500rpm and 121Nm of torque from 4,000 to 4,800rpm.
The engine is further accompanied by two electric motors, with one producing 59kW (80PS) and 141Nm of torque, while the other is relegated to starting and battery charging duties.

In unison, the hybrid setup provides a total system output of 111PS and is touted to provide 27.8 to 33.3km per litre at best in terms of fuel consumption.
Energy storage for the HEV's hybrid system is a locally-assembled 48-cell lithium-ion type that can provide up 763.7Wh of electrical supply.
As standard, the Yaris Cross 1.5S comes fitted with dual trapezoid grilles that are flanked by LED headlights with integrated daytime runners and signals, as well as rear light clusters.
The 18-inch wheels fitted with 215/55 series tyres partially obscure the front and rear brake discs, while the suspension uses a front MacPherson and rear torsion beam setup.

Inside, the cabin boasts of modern styling with the seats wrapped in a Blue-Black combination faux-leather.
A 7.0-inch digital meter is reserved for the driver, while a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen display takes care of entertainment and provides vital information via wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto.
For added convenience, a panoramic view monitor has been included along with a hands-free operation for the 471-litre boot, a wireless charger and rear USB Type-C ports.
In terms of safety, Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) has been included, which uses a stereoscopic camera instead of a monocular camera and radar to scan the road ahead.

Its ADAS suite boasts of nine active safety systems such as Pre-Collision System, Pre-Collision Braking, Full Speed Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Keeping Control, Front Departure Alert, Pedal Misoperation Control and Automatic High Beam.
Additionally, there's also Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert system, Panoramic View Monitor, and parking sensors are included.
Other standard safety equipment includes anti-lock braking system, Electronic Brake-force Distribution and six airbags.
