PETALING JAYA: Two men were detained after a failed attempt at robbing a woman at a traffic light near the Sungai Buloh toll plaza.

The victim had stopped her car at the traffic light at about 9.30am on Aug 6 when two men on a motorcycle stopped beside her vehicle before smashing her car window and grabbing her handbag.

However, the victim acted quickly and drove her car against the suspects, causing them to fall down.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said members of the public who were at the scene caught the suspects before handing them over to police personnel.

"We recovered the stolen handbag as well as a spark plug from the suspects' motorcycle.

"We believe they used the spark plug to smash car windows," he told a press conference today.

Police also recovered another handbag containing a MyKad and bank cards belonging to a woman, he added. "She was a victim of a similar crime in Sungai Buloh.

"Both men have past records for various criminal and drug-related offences," ACP Nik Ezanee said.

The suspects were believed to be responsible for several smash and grab cases in Klang Valley, he added.

"They have been remanded until Aug 13," he said.
