KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia will be launching two new models this year as well as expand the application of e:HEV, VTEC Turbocharged, Honda SENSING and Honda CONNECT technologies to its model line-up.

It will also start selling used Honda cars under a Honda Certified Used Car programme.

The various measures are part of its 2022 target to achieve 80,000 sales units.

The company sold a total of 53,031 units in 2021 and contributed 10.4% market share to the Total Industry Volume, Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Madoka Chujo said at its media appreciation night at a hotel here on Thursday.

Model-wise, the City, HR-V and CR-V were the best-selling models, contributing 36%, 21% and 14% respectively to the total units sold.

The 2022 sales target is based on Honda Malaysia's assumption of Total Industry Volume (TIV) of 600,000 units.

To a media question, Chujo said she was confident Honda Malaysia could achieve the 2022 sales target and might even exceed it despite various challenges such as the global chip shortage and the ongoing pandemic.

Honda Malaysia plans to further expand its unique RS e:HEV hybrid technology in the company’s future model line-up, and offer models that deliver excellent fuel economy and low carbon emissions yet provide the sporty and fun-to-drive experience for customers.

The e:HEV technology was introduced in the City and City Hatchback, which has attracted plenty of public interest, and created a whole new value proposition in hybrid vehicles.
