Retired British Airways employee Trevor Godfrey was more than a little surprised when his local retailer, Marshall Volkswagen Gatwick, called to say he was buying the 10,000th Tiguan R.
But that surprise turned to sheer delight when he learned that, to mark the occasion, he was collecting his car at Brands Hatch, which hosted 14 Formula One Grand Prix from 1964 to 1986.
“I’m a big Formula One fan, so this is perfect for me,” said Godfrey, 65. “How many people can say that the first place they drove their new car was Brands Hatch?”
After a special presentation and car unveiling in the race circuit pit lane, Godfrey was given the opportunity to head out on to the race track in another near-identical Tiguan R.
After some initial passenger laps with a professional driver, Godfrey took the wheel to experience the limits of the 320 PS evo4 four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 4MOTION R-Performance Torque Vectoring systems.
Peter Jost, Head of Marketing and Sales for Volkswagen R, was at Brands Hatch to oversee the special handover and present Godfrey with a few mementoes to mark the occasion, including a specially engraved souvenir keyring.
