KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Group sustained its automotive sales momentum in October with a record 44,767 vehicles sold amid a pick-up in orders for both UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and Perodua units.

Year-to-date, the group's automotive sales have jumped 17% to 354.505 units from 302,356 units in the same period in 2022, it said in a statement.

UMWT registered 10,931 units in October 2023, 18% higher than the 9,281 units registered in October 2022, and its highest monthly sales in the last five years.

Year-to-date, UMWT registered 87,442 units, recording a 9% growth compared with the 80,153 units registered in the corresponding period of 2022.

Perodua registered 33,836 units in October, 31% higher from the same month in 2022.

The sales was a monthly record, as the manufacturer ramped up production supported by the improving supply chain.

As at end-October 2023, Perodua’s sales surged to 267,063 units, 20% higher than the 222,203 units delivered in the same period of 2022.

For the first 10 months of 2023, Perodua’s top selling models were the Bezza, followed by the Axia and Myvi, said UMW.

"We are confident that both companies will achieve their sales targets for 2023 based on the outstanding bookings as well as the sustained demand for new vehicles.

"The introduction of new and facelifted models is also expected to drive sales," said UMW officer-on-charge Megat Shahrul Azmir.
