Updated Toyota Camry introduced from RM199,100

SHAH ALAM: UMW Toyota Motor has unveiled its updated eighth-generation 2022 Camry 2.5V flagship sedan that features a more powerful engine, higher efficient transmission as well as a host of improved safety, convenience features and upmarket presence.

Fully imported from Thailand, the new model is available for booking and is priced from RM199,109 (with 50% sales and service tax exemption and without insurance).

The previous Camry 2.5V was priced from RM188,763.

Similar with its predecessor, the 2022 Camry is built with the TNGA Platform, an internal structure specially developed by Toyota for increased chassis stiffness and lower center of gravity for better handling and more comfortable drive.

The model gets a new 2.5-litre Dynamic Force A25A-FKS engine with port and direct injection that outputs 209PS and 253Nm of torque which are 25PS and 18Nm more than the engine used in the previous Camry.

The new engine, that is also used in the Lexus ES 250, claims a thermal efficiency of 40% and promises a fuel economy of 6.8 litres per 100km which is 8% better than the previous Camry.

The new vehicle is also equipped with an eight-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission that is more compact with 25% wider gear ratios compared with the outgoing Camry's  six-speed automatic transmission.

Also included are paddle shifters and three drive modes of ECO, Normal and Sport for seamless maneuvering and a highly responsive drive.

Other improvements include a nine-inch (+1-inch) centre display and an audio system with nine JBL speakers and a subwoofer that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Camry’s enhanced state-of-the-art safety features include Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) with Pre-Collision System (PCS) and increased recognition capabilities that can now detect pedestrians and cyclists.

The All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Keeping System and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), as well as Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Auto Brake (RCTAB), coupled with the new Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) and Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) makes the new Camry a much safer vehicle.

Additionally, rear passengers can use a control panel on the rear centre folding armrest to power recline their seats by eight degrees and adjust their air-conditioning system, rear sunshade as well as the car's audio system.

Other features include automatic bi-LED projector headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels.

Available colours are Graphite Metallic, Silver Metallic, Red Mica and its signature colours Platinum White Pearl and Burning Black, which will cost an additional RM800.

As a standard in all Toyota vehicles, the latest Camry also comes with a comprehensive five-year warranty with unlimited mileage.

At the car's virtual launch tonight, UMW Toyota Motor president Ravindran K said the company was confident the new Camry would provide a new standard of comfort, luxury and performance with its striking presence and optimised functionality.

“We have come a long way since the introduction of the first Camry in Malaysia back in 1994, which was the third generation model, followed by the first locally assembled Camry Hybrid in 2015.

“The current eighth generation Camry was launched in Malaysia in November 2018 and has since sold over 3,000 units,” he said.
