SUBANG JAYA: The upgraded Proton X50 has been introduced in Brunei - the first export market for the 2025 refreshed compact SUV (sport utility vehicle).
The recent launch event in Bandar Seri Begawan was attended by High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Datuk Mohd Aini Antan, Proton International Corp Sdn Bhd (PICSB) vice president Wan Wei, Pad Motors Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Kah Boon, and PAD Motors managing partner Hambali Pehin Salleh.
Last year, PICSB recorded a total export volume of 6,000 units, demonstrating sustained demand across international markets.
The X50 emerged as a key contributor, accounting for 29% of sales.
In Brunei, the X50 contributed 38% of total sales, reinforcing its status as one of the top SUV choices in the market.
Brunei is set to remain an important contributor to PICSB’s export growth, with a target of 1,000 units for the year.
This momentum will be supported by the introduction of refreshed, feature-enhanced models such as the X50, and the eventual rollout of the new Proton Saga.
“Brunei is the first overseas market to introduce the new X50, and this reflects the confidence Proton has in Brunei as an export market as well as the trust in our long-standing partnership with PAD Motors. With models like the X50, the company is well-positioned to achieve its 2026 export targets and accelerate towards our long term ambition of reaching 330,000 units by 2030, with 30% contributed by export markets,” said Wan Wei.
The upgraded X50 features refreshed exterior styling, a refined interior, and advanced safety and driver-assistance systems.
It is powered by a new i-GT 1.5-litre TD four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 181PS and 290Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
For the exterior, there is a refreshed front fascia, full LED headlamps, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a sporty rear spoiler with quad exhaust tailpipes.
The interior features a floating floor console, 72-colour rhythmic ambient lighting, and high-quality leatherette upholstery.
As for safety and driver assistance, there are Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) with up to 12 parking sensors, including a 360-degree HD (high definition) camera with a 180-degree transparent undercarriage view, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and six airbags.
In Brunei, the new X50 is priced at B$27,499 or RM86,512 (Executive); B$31,500 or RM99,099 (Premium) and B$34,500 or RM108,538 (Flagship).
