Meanwhile, MAA noted that the total industry volume (TIV) for January 2022 was 38% lower than in December 2021 which came in at 65,184 units.

“The TIV in December 2021 was very high also due to the year-end promotional campaigns by automotive companies.

“Supply chain disruptions caused by floods in certain parts of the Klang Valley and the East Coast in December 2021 resulted in lower stocks for certain makes in January 2022,” it said.

It added that most customers bought forward in December 2021.

In terms of total production, 42,961 vehicles were produced in January 2022 compared with 39,666 units in January 2021.

On the outlook, MAA said sales in February 2022 are expected to be maintained at the January level due to a short working month, as well as supply chain disruptions due to recent floods and the ongoing chip shortage.
