VinFast introduces three electric SUVs

HANOI: Vietnam's homegrown auto brand Vinfast, has announced a new milestone by offering three electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) models with partial self-driving capabilities.

The vehicles - the VF31 C-segment SUV, VF32 C-segment SUV and VF33 D-segment SUV - would be among the few vehicles in the world to deploy level 3 autopilot capability affirming VinFast's R&D capacity and ability to produce high-class, pioneering products.

The full-option versions of VF33, VF32 and VF31 would be equipped with high-performance sensor systems including LiDAR sensors, 14 cameras capable of detecting objects up to 687m away, and 19 360-degree sensors allow warning and handling at high speeds (above 100kph).

The self-driving system controlled by the Orin-X chip can process up to 200GB of data per second, allowing control and navigation up to eight times faster than current generations.

In addition, the full-option versions will be equipped with some level 4 autopilot features such as automatic 3-dimensional map setting (first and only in the market), auto-detect parking slot and auto-parking, summoning feature as well as the ability to connect with the transport system and smart cities infrastructures to bring comfort, safety and high-class experience to users.

In addition to outstanding autopilot features - with the "customer-centric" philosophy - VinFast specially invests in smart features (virtual cockpit) with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence technology (AI), Deep Learning, facial recognition and multi-lingual virtual assistant among others.

In terms of safety, all three models meet international safety standards such as NHTSA 5, Euro NCAP 5 with automatic detection, warning and notification systems to medical centres when involved in an accident.

The batteries are located under the floor of the car with heat resistance from 40 to 80 Celsius to ensure safety when driving.

In addition, all models have software for automatic updating, fault detection and service station locator among others.

Order taking for the VF31 is expected to start from May in Vietnam with deliveries to customers from November.

The VF32 and VF33 will start order taking from September in Vietnam with deliveries from February next year.

For the US, Canadian and European markets, VinFast will start taking orders from November with deliveries from June next year.

Since joining the auto industry three years ago, VinFast has included electric scooters, electric buses and electric cars in its ambition to become a global EV player.

In addition to its modern factory complex in Vietnam, VinFast also owns a network of R&D centres in Australia, Germany and the US along with a world-class vehicle testing centre in Australia.
