The e-luxury company has already begun deliveries to neighbouring Indonesia last year.
Volvo Car Malaysia began their electrification journey with the introduction of its first-ever electric vehicle in Malaysia – the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric in March 2022.
The fully-electric premium SUV received overwhelming response from customers, with orders of Model Year 2022 being closed after 400 orders within the first month of its launch.
In December 2022, the company introduced its second locally-assembled electric vehicle – the C40 Recharge Pure Electric, marking the next chapter in its electrification journey.
Volvo Car Malaysia managing director Charles Frump said the company's ambition towards an all-electric Malaysia is steadily becoming a reality.
"Our assembly plant here in Malaysia plays an important role in our electrification ambition as we bring our electric vehicles to two more Asean countries – Vietnam and the Philippines.
"The exportation of our locally assembled electric vehicles is one of our many steps to propel Malaysia to becoming a hub for electric vehicles in the Asean region.”

Volvo Car Malaysia is on the right track with aims for 75% of its sales to come from their Recharge Pure Electric line-up by 2025 and to become a fully electric car company by 2030.

Volvo Car Malaysia was the first luxury automotive car maker in Malaysia to offer a full range of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and is also the first car manufacturer in Malaysia with a local assembly plant that assembles fully electric vehicles.
Volvo Car Malaysia closed 2022 with a record of 3,194 sales – a 43% increase from the previous year and achieving a seventh consecutive year of sales growth.
The company is also looking to increase the number of electric vehicles sold as they move closer to its 2025 goal.
