KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the updated Volvo XC90, marking a major refresh of the brand’s flagship seven-seater SUV.
The latest iteration of this enduring model arrives with a suite of design, performance, and technology upgrades that bring it in line with Volvo’s latest electric vehicles, while continuing to offer hybrid powertrains for both performance and efficiency.
The new XC90 Ultra T8 is priced at RM434,888 (on-the-road without insurance), while the Ultra B5 variant is available at RM418,888. The XC90 was launched alongside the all-new EX90 electric SUV.

The XC90 is now available in two variants for the Malaysian market—the T8 plug-in hybrid and B5 mild hybrid—both equipped with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed Geartronic transmission.
The T8 Ultra combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 462hp and 709Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100kph sprint in just 5.3 seconds.
It delivers up to 77km of electric-only driving under the WLTP cycle, while combined fuel consumption can be as low as 1.8 litres per 100km.
The B5 Ultra variant offers 263hp and 390Nm, reaching 100kph in 7.7 seconds.

Its mild hybrid system is paired with a 48V lithium-ion battery and an integrated starter-generator, optimised for real-world fuel efficiency and CO2 reduction.
On the outside, the XC90 receives a revised front-end treatment with a sculpted bonnet, redesigned air intake, slimmer headlights and updated bumpers and fenders, all of which sharpen its profile while preserving its Scandinavian elegance.
The facelift is the first major design update for the current-generation XC90 and is accompanied by four exterior colour options: Onyx Black, Denim Blue, Crystal White and Vapour Grey. All models come with Charcoal Nappa leather interiors and Grey Ash wood trim.

Inside, the refreshed cabin introduces a horizontal dashboard layout with upgraded textures and improved ambient lighting.
A key update is the addition of a larger 11.2-inch free-standing central display with 21 percent higher pixel density, giving access to Volvo’s latest user interface.
This new system, shared with the fully electric EX90, provides a simplified layout with a contextual bar for quick access to frequently used features.
It also supports Google Built-in, offering hands-free voice control via “Hey Google” for tasks such as navigation and adjusting climate settings. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and head-up display further enhance driver visibility.

Exclusively for the T8 variant, the upgraded interface includes “Drive Modes” that allow drivers to switch between electric-only, hybrid and performance settings.
Convenience features on both variants include a panoramic sunroof with powered sunshade, ventilated and powered front seats with memory function and four-way lumbar support, four-zone climate control and a 360-degree camera system.
Ride comfort in the new XC90 is supported by an active air suspension system across all four wheels.
The suspension is capable of self-levelling and adjusting ride height based on driving conditions, lowering by 20mm for improved aerodynamics or rising by 40 mm in off-road settings.

An electronically controlled damping system further refines the ride by adapting to road surfaces in real time.
Cabin refinement is boosted by enhanced sound insulation and a new frequency-selective damping system, reducing road and wind noise.
These improvements provide an optimal environment for the Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity sound system, which includes 19 speakers and advanced tuning technologies such as Nautilus and Continuum drivers, plus Dirac Unison Tuning for audiophile-grade playback.
Safety remains a cornerstone of the XC90’s identity. The SUV is equipped with Volvo’s Safe Space Technology and a reinforced safety cage structure, earning top safety accolades such as a five-star Euro NCAP rating and the IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

Advanced driver assistance systems include next-generation Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control, lane-centring and emergency braking.
Both versions of the XC90 come with five years of complimentary digital services, unlimited mileage warranty, 24-hour roadside assistance, and an eight-year warranty for the T8’s high-voltage battery.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid-April, with bookings now open through authorised Volvo Car dealerships nationwide.
